Clothing photoshoot cost calculator
Put in how many garments you have and how many images each one needs, and this page prices three routes side by side: booking a model, a photographer and a studio; shooting flat lays yourself and paying someone per image to edit them; or generating the images with Photopurr. Every default rate comes from a public source you can click, every rate is editable, and the arithmetic is written out under the result.
Shoot it
$397.08
$7.94 an image
- Model (4 hours at the rate you set)$91.20
- Photographer (4 hours at the rate you set)$85.88
- Studio (4 hours at the rate you set)$220
Outsource the editing
—
Not calculated. Missing: Editing, outsourced.
Photopurr
$5.45
$0.11 an image
- Photopurr credits (50 images at 6 credits each)$5.45
How the Photopurr figure is worked out
50 images × 6 credits × $20 ÷ 1,100 credits = $5.45. Credits never expire and failed runs are refunded automatically.
The three routes
Shoot it. You book whatever you have ticked — a model, a photographer, a studio — for the number of hours you set. This is the column that does not scale: twice the garments means twice the hours, and the rates do not fall.
Outsource the editing. You shoot the flat lays yourself on a table by a window and pay an editing studio per image to cut out, clean up and resize. The cost is per image rather than per hour, which is why it behaves completely differently once you pass a few dozen garments.
Photopurr. The images are generated, so the cost is per image as well, but the per-image price is set by which credit pack you bought and which model and resolution you pick. Both of those are inputs above, and the working is shown below the result.
The three are not mutually exclusive in real life, and the calculator is not trying to prove a point. A seller with ten hero garments and two hundred long-tail items usually shoots the ten and generates the rest.
Where the default rates come from
Three of the four have a public source, quoted and dated in the panel under the inputs. The model and photographer rates are U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics wage figures. The studio rate is the bottom of the range Peerspace publishes for photo shoot venues across the United States.
Where we had a choice we took the lower number, deliberately. The model rate uses the median hourly wage rather than the higher mean; the studio rate uses $55 rather than the $90 top of the same published range or the $85 Peerspace reports for Los Angeles. We sell the generated alternative, so inflating the shoot column would be marking our own homework.
These are also wages rather than quotes. A booking through an agency carries a fee and often a half-day minimum; a commercial photographer’s day rate for e-commerce sits well above the wage figure. If you have a real quote, type it in. Every field is editable and the result updates as you type.
The fourth rate, outsourced editing per image, has no default at all. We looked, and everything we found was a retouching vendor advertising its own "from" price, spread between about $0.19 and over $0.75 an image with nothing independent behind any of it. So that field starts empty and the outsourcing column says what it is missing until you fill it in. A blank is more honest than a plausible-looking number.
How the Photopurr column is worked out
Images multiplied by credits per image multiplied by the price of one credit. Nothing else, no minimums, no monthly fee.
Credits per image comes from the model and resolution you choose. The cheapest 1K model is the lowest per-image price we sell; the standard model is the one most people leave selected, and its 1K, 2K and 4K prices are different because the upstream cost is different. A 2K render covers the recommended size on every marketplace in our image specs guide, so 4K is a choice rather than a default.
The price of one credit comes from the credit pack you choose. Bigger packs carry more credits for the same dollar, so the same image gets cheaper as the pack gets bigger. From $0.10 an image is what the largest packs work out to on the cheapest 1K model.
Credits do not expire, failed runs are refunded automatically, and verifying your email adds 20 free credits, which is enough to test the arithmetic above on your own garment before you pay for anything.
What the calculator leaves out
Your own time. Pulling samples, steaming, pinning, packing, travelling, art directing and picking selects is most of a shoot day and none of it appears in an hourly rate. If you want to see it, add yourself as a second hourly line by raising the photographer rate.
Getting the garments to the shoot and back, sample loss, and the pieces that come back unsellable. For resale sellers photographing one-of-one stock this is a real cost, not a rounding error.
Reshoots. Every route has a failure rate: a shoot has bad frames, an editing vendor has revisions, generation has runs you throw away. Our failed runs are refunded automatically, but a run that technically succeeded and that you simply do not like still costs credits.
Usage rights. A model booking is for an agreed set of images and an agreed period; going beyond either is a renegotiation. It is the cost most first-time sellers discover a year later.
Every default rate, with its source
Model, per hour
$22.80
Median hourly wage $22.80; mean hourly wage $33.03; mean annual wage $68,700.
This is a wage for people employed as models, not an agency booking rate, which is normally higher and often has a half-day minimum. We use the median rather than the mean so the shoot column is not flattered.

Photographer, per hour
$21.47
The median hourly wage for photographers was $21.47 in May 2025.
Two thirds of photographers are self-employed, and a freelance day rate for commercial e-commerce work is usually well above this wage figure. Treat it as a floor, not a quote.

Studio, per hour
$55.00
Photoshoot venues on Peerspace cost on average between $55 — $90 per hour.
We take the bottom of the published range. Peerspace lists city averages well above it: $79 an hour in New York, $85 in Los Angeles, $112 in San Francisco.

Outsourced editing, per image
No default
We could not find a source worth quoting. Every published figure we found is a retouching vendor advertising its own "from" price, and those run from about $0.19 to over $0.75 an image with no independent data behind any of them. Put in the quote you actually have.
How it works
- 1Enter your catalogue
Set how many garments you need photographed and how many images each one needs. Five images per garment is a normal marketplace listing: a main shot, two angles, a detail and a scale reference.
- 2Set the shoot up
Tick what you would actually book — a model, a photographer, a studio — and set how many hours. The default rates are sourced and shown under the inputs; replace any of them with a real quote.
- 3Pick the Photopurr settings
Choose the model and resolution you would generate at and the credit pack you would buy. Those two decide the per-image price, and the working is printed under the result.
- 4Compare and copy
Read the three totals and the per-image figures underneath them, then copy the whole breakdown as text with the link to this page so whoever approves the budget can check the arithmetic.
Questions
- How much does a clothing photoshoot cost?
- There is no single answer, which is why this is a calculator rather than a number. With the sourced defaults, a four hour shoot with a model, a photographer and a rented studio comes to a few hundred dollars before any editing, and that figure is the same whether you photograph five garments or forty in those four hours.
- Where do the default rates come from?
- The model and photographer rates are U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics wage figures, and the studio rate is the bottom of the range Peerspace publishes for U.S. photo shoot venues. Each one is quoted, linked and dated in the sources panel on this page.
- Why is the editing price blank?
- Because we could not find a source worth quoting. The published figures are vendors advertising their own starting prices, from about $0.19 to over $0.75 an image, with nothing independent behind them. Rather than pick one and dress it up as data, we leave the field empty and the outsourcing column tells you what it needs.
- Are these rates what I will actually pay?
- Almost certainly not. They are national wage medians and a marketplace average, and your city, your agency and your date all move them. They are a defensible starting point, not a quote. Type in your real numbers.
- How is the Photopurr price calculated?
- Images multiplied by credits per image multiplied by the price of one credit. Credits per image comes from the model and resolution you pick; the price of one credit comes from the credit pack you pick. Both are read live from our pricing, not typed into this page.
- What resolution should I generate at?
- A 2K render covers the recommended size on every marketplace in our image specs guide. 1K is enough for a marketplace that tops out around 1000 pixels, and 4K is worth it when you want deep zoom on a fabric detail.
- Do credits expire?
- No. There is no subscription and no monthly minimum, so buying a larger pack to get the lower per-image price does not put you on a clock.
- What is not in the calculator?
- Your own hours, travel, sample handling and loss, reshoots, and usage rights on a model booking. Those are listed in full above, because leaving them out silently would make the shoot column look cheaper than it is.
- Can I share the result?
- Yes. The copy button gives you the whole breakdown as plain text with the link to this page at the bottom, so anyone you send it to can change an assumption and re-run it.
