TikTok Shop product image requirements checker

TikTok Shop asks for images of at least 600 × 600 pixels, accepts up to nine square images per product, and wants a first image that shows a clear front view with no text, graphics or watermarks on it. This page measures a photo against those rules and reports the background and how much of the frame the garment fills. The check runs in your browser.

Check against

The image is read in your browser with canvas. It is never uploaded, and no account is needed.

Six hundred pixels is a floor, not a target

The published minimum is 600 × 600, and TikTok Shop’s listing quality guidance repeats it as a resolution greater than 600 × 600 for the main product detail page image. Clearing it is easy. Looking good is a different question: TikTok Shop is browsed almost entirely on a phone at full screen width, and a 600 pixel image on a modern phone display is being stretched by two or three times before anyone sees it.

Generate or export at 1000 pixels or more and the problem disappears. This checker flags anything below that as worth looking at, even though it clears the published rule, because soft images are the single most visible difference between a shop that looks established and one that does not.

Everything is square. Up to nine square images per product, with at least five recommended, so the picture you upload should be composed square rather than cropped square at the last moment.

The first image is held to a different standard

It has to show a clear front view of the product, on what TikTok Shop recommends is a white background, with no text, graphics, watermarks, marketing stickers, mosaics or filters on it. Black-and-white images are not accepted at all. The images after it are where you show different angles, features and anything included in the box.

That first-image rule is stricter than sellers coming from social video expect. A thumbnail with a price badge or a "50% OFF" sticker is normal in an organic TikTok post and is not allowed on a product listing.

TikTok Shop also states that images should not be digital renderings, and publishes nothing that names AI-generated model photography specifically. We do not read one as an answer to the other, so we do not tell you what that means for your listing. What we would do is lead with a photograph of the garment you are shipping and treat generated on-model images as supporting shots.

Nine images, five of them earning their place

Five images is the recommended floor and nine is the ceiling, which leaves room for a front view, a back view, one detail, one on-model shot and one that shows scale. Listings that stop at two images look abandoned next to ones that do not, and on a surface where the product page is reached from a video the images are often the only place a buyer slows down.

Children’s swimwear and undergarments are the one hard content rule for apparel here: they have to be shown flat on a plain background, never on a model. That is worth knowing before you generate anything for those categories.

Everything else is craft. Shoot or generate square, keep the background clean on the first image, keep text off it, and use the remaining slots for the things a buyer would otherwise have to ask about: the fabric up close, the fit on a body, and how big the thing actually is.

What TikTok Shop publishes, with sources

Rules a single image cannot show

What TikTok Shop does not publish

  • TikTok Shop does not publish a maximum file size or a list of accepted image formats on the seller pages we checked, only a 5 MB limit on the one video per listing. This checker therefore reports your file size without passing or failing it.
  • TikTok Shop states that images should not be digital renderings, but publishes no rule that names AI-generated model photography. We do not read that as an approval or a ban, so we do not state one.

How it works

  1. 1
    Choose the marketplace

Pick Amazon, Etsy, eBay, Shopify, TikTok Shop or Poshmark. The rule list under the picker changes to that marketplace’s published requirements, each with its source.

  2. 2
    Choose an image

Select a photo from your computer or phone. It is decoded in the page with canvas and read there. Nothing is sent to a server, so there is no upload wait and nothing stored.

  3. 3
Read the result and copy it

Each rule comes back as passed, to check, or failed, with the number we measured, how to fix it, and the official page the rule came from. Use the copy button to paste the whole report to whoever edits your photos.

Questions

What size do TikTok Shop product images have to be?
At least 600 × 600 pixels. The catalogue is browsed at full width on a phone, so 1000 px or more is what actually looks sharp.
Do TikTok Shop images have to be square?
TikTok Shop takes up to nine square images per product, so square is what the layout expects. A tall or wide crop gets letterboxed.
Does the main image need a white background?
TikTok Shop recommends a white background for the main product detail page image. It is a recommendation rather than a hard requirement, so this checker reports it as a reminder.
Can I put my brand name on the first image?
No. TikTok Shop rules out text, graphics, watermarks and promotional stickers on the first image.
How many images should a TikTok Shop listing have?
Up to nine are allowed and at least five are recommended.
