Poshmark listing photo requirements checker
Poshmark changed its cover photos to a portrait 3:4 frame in March 2026, which means a square covershot taken under the old guidance now gets cropped or padded. This page measures your photo against that ratio, reports the background and how much of the frame the item fills, and tells you plainly which numbers Poshmark does not publish. Nothing is uploaded.
The image is read in your browser with canvas. It is never uploaded, and no account is needed.
The frame changed and a lot of closets did not
Poshmark announced in March 2026 that cover photos now display in portrait 3:4 instead of square 1:1. Its own photography guide, which is still up, tells sellers to shoot in square mode. Anyone who followed that guide has a closet full of square covershots now sitting in a portrait frame, which means either cropped at the sides or padded, and in both cases the item reads smaller in the feed than a neighbouring listing shot at 3:4.
Re-cropping is usually enough, provided the original has margin above and below the item. This is the argument for always shooting or generating with more room than you need: a 3:4 crop can be pulled out of a taller frame, but it cannot be invented out of a tight square.
The checker measures the ratio and tells you what it is. It does not tell you a pixel size, because Poshmark does not publish one.
What Poshmark asks for, and what it leaves to you
The published guidance is about craft rather than specifications: a white or simple background on the covershot so the item stays the focus, natural light from a window rather than overhead bulbs, and a warning that overdoing artificial light makes photos grainy or blown out. Sixteen photos plus a video per listing gives plenty of room for detail shots, labels and flaws.
What is missing from every Poshmark page we could read is a pixel size, a file size limit and a format list. Figures for those circulate widely on reseller blogs. We are not going to repeat them, because we could not find them on anything Poshmark publishes, and a threshold with no source behind it is worse than no threshold at all.
So this page passes or fails you on two things, ratio and background, reports everything else as information, and says which is which. For one-of-one resale stock, where a booked shoot never pays for itself, getting the covershot frame right is most of the battle.
Sixteen photos, and the fifteen after the cover
The covershot has a job: stop someone scrolling a feed. The other fifteen have a different one: answer the questions that would otherwise become a message, a haggle or a return. For secondhand clothing that means the brand label, the care and size tag, the fabric up close, a measurement tape across the chest and the waist, and an honest photograph of every flaw.
Poshmark allows a video as well, and for anything with drape or movement a five second clip does more than three more stills.
None of that is what this tool measures, and pretending otherwise would be silly. What it can tell you is whether the one photo that has to do the stopping is in the right frame and clean enough to read at thumbnail size, which is the only part of a Poshmark listing that is a technical problem rather than a merchandising one.

What Poshmark does not publish
- Poshmark publishes no minimum or maximum pixel size, no file size limit and no list of accepted formats on the pages we checked. This checker reports those numbers for your own reference but does not pass or fail them.
- Poshmark’s 2020 photography guide tells sellers to shoot square 1:1. The March 2026 update says cover photos now display in portrait 3:4. We follow the newer statement, and you should crop to 3:4.
How it works
- 1Choose the marketplace
Pick Amazon, Etsy, eBay, Shopify, TikTok Shop or Poshmark. The rule list under the picker changes to that marketplace’s published requirements, each with its source.
- 2Choose an image
Select a photo from your computer or phone. It is decoded in the page with canvas and read there. Nothing is sent to a server, so there is no upload wait and nothing stored.
- 3Read the result and copy it
Each rule comes back as passed, to check, or failed, with the number we measured, how to fix it, and the official page the rule came from. Use the copy button to paste the whole report to whoever edits your photos.
Questions
- What shape should a Poshmark covershot be?
- Portrait 3:4. Poshmark announced in March 2026 that cover photos display in portrait rather than the square 1:1 its older guide describes.
- What pixel size does Poshmark require?
- Poshmark does not publish one on its help or blog pages. Figures circulating on third-party sites are not something we can source, so this tool reports your dimensions without passing or failing them.
- How many photos can a Poshmark listing have?
- Up to 16 photos plus one video.
- Does the background have to be white?
- It is not a requirement. Poshmark’s photography guide recommends a white or simple background for the covershot so the item stays the focus.
- My old square covershots look wrong now. What do I do?
- Re-crop them to 3:4, or regenerate the shot at 3:4. A 1:1 covershot in a 3:4 frame either gets cropped at the sides or padded, and either way the garment sits smaller in the feed.
